Leicestershire Disability Leadership Academy Residential 2018 - Hothorpe Hall

Leicester City Football Club Community Trust and Ellesmere College, in partnership with Leicester-shire and Rutland Sport and the Leicester Riders Foundation delivered a Disability Leadership Academy residential. A selected group of young disabled leaders had the great opportunity to further develop their leadership and volunteering skills through a three day intense residential training programme.

The Academy Leaders were nominated through the Special School Network to take part and to develop their skills and experience as leaders. There were 11 young leaders attending, with 5 community mentors, who previously attended a similar training programme, on hand to support and guide them. The residential included workshops on planning, delivering and officiating inclusive activities, and the pathways and support structures that they might access in their future sport and physical activity, leadership and volunteering opportunities.

The development of this programme will establish a pool of disabled leaders that can impact within Schools and in the community, for both Ellesmere College, LCFC CT programmes and wider partner initiatives, such as the School Games. From this initial training the leaders will be supported to continue their journey and develop additional skills/experiences throughout the year by partner and LCFC Staff – with some asked to become Mentors for future leadership training days.
