Back to College!
And we’re back!
Here at Ellesmere we have had a hive of activity following the return of staff and students at the end of August. We would like to extend a warm welcome to all our new staff and students. To all our new starters as well as those who are in new classes and classrooms, and with new teachers and activities, everyone seems to be settling in brilliantly!
Our Ellesmere chickens are also happy to be back, with different students and classes taking responsibility for them at various times during the school week. We are also lucky to be welcoming Maydew, a Shetland pony, onto site each week to provide Equine therapy to some students.
This term, we are also lucky to welcome back Attenborough Arts to work with some of our students to create art work that goes beyond the picture and into the realms of exploration of line and colour. The students are working and creating a studio in our own environment where the work can be extended around the school. Students are encouraged to formulate their own ideas, share with others and to take lead roles, giving all students a voice and a choice. The students go on a journey experimenting and exploring different sensations from different ideas and materials.
We also welcomed students from Netherhall and Birket House alongside Ellesmere students to take part in a Motor Activity Training Programme (MATP) day, designed to prepare athletes for sport specific activities and develop gross motor skills appropriate for their ability levels. Our lunchtime and after school clubs are restarting, with basketball, dance and youth clubs taking place as well as a signing club for students and staff, and a staff netball club. With only two weeks until our first holiday of the new school year, we hope that this half term has set the foundations for a happy and successful 2017/18 academic year.
